As we live in a digital age, where expression is voiced through images and graphics, therefore see’s a rise and importance in graphic design.
This graphical expression can be on tangible surfaces such as; canvas’, walls, poster, signs, brochures, flyers or on anything that is physical or digital nature such as images or graphics via a computer screen.

Graphic design is widely used by business’ to give consumers an image of the business and to attract customers with quirky designs.  You can have a great and successful business, but if you have a badly designed image, that can be detrimental to the business.

It seems that graphics are the chosen choice rather than words for expression these days. You can say that one reason for this is that pictures, images and colours are more attractive and more memorable than words, as the old expression says ‘a picture speaks a thousand words’. Graphics can tell a story more effectively or just the same as descriptive text. The one problem with this is, one image can be portrayed differently from one person to another.
Therefore the role of the graphic designer is in much more demand. Not only the graphic designer, but a graphic designer with quirky and exciting ideas than the graphic designer ten years ago with their more basic designs. You can call this the ‘evolution of the graphic designer’. This new breed of designer are more in tuned with society today, being able to tap into the consumer and tapping into what will excite them in terms of design. You can say this is the major difference from a graphic designer and consumer from 10 years ago.  Society, and how we perceive things, is different from how we would of done 10 years ago.

10, say 20 years ago, demand for the graphic designer came predominately from large corporate business’ looking to create logos, images etc. to represent their brands. But now, that demand has changed. Demand comes from everywhere, still from large corporates, but from small businesses, artists, musicians, even to the local town DJ who will seek a graphic designer to create a logo to represent them.

So as we see, the demand for the Graphic Designer is much more greater than it ever was.
